Defining The Steps:

1. Research Keywords

Before deciding what keyword or key phrase you want to optimize for, it is a good idea to spend some time researching.   You will want to find keywords/ keyphrases that can provide you the  most value for your SEO and Content Distribution efforts.   You will look for keyword phrases that are descriptive of the area you are promoting (relevancy) and that have a history of higher search volume (this is relative, depending on the industry).  All things being equal, would you rather get ranked on Google SERP for a term that gets 1 search per day or one that gets 100 searches per day?  Also consider the competiveness of the keyword in deciding which to choose to go after.  Google provides a Keyword Tool that provides good data.

Additionally, if your business is locally based or sells products or services through local channels, you should watch our Free Course on Local Business Listings.  Keep in mind if your target keyword displays local results (Google Maps), then SEO work should consider the implicit local modifier.

2. Create Valuable Content For Your Website And For Distribution

You will need to have a website and webpages that are highly relevant for the keywords you are targeting.  Let’s cut to the chase, you are hoping to get a top spot on the best search engine on the planet.  They are the best because they show their users highly relevant content.  If you want Google to even consider your content for a top ranking, be sure to do your best job in creating a well written, informative and timely articles and videos.

We are going to share with you our best ideas for topics and suggestions on how to create both interesting and fresh content….even if your Industry isn’t the sexiest.  An article for your website does not need to be longer than 500-600 words.  How you write and position your topic, how you select your headline, and the way you present information, the technical aspects of Keyword positions, anchor text selection, link selection and much more will affect the overall quality and effectiveness of the content…so we will spend some time on this.

Additionally, when creating content that you also plan to distribute via syndication and on other websites, you will need to create unique content for distribution, so as to avoid any Duplicate Content issues that could compete against your site pages.

3. Check On-Page SEO

Search Engines are looking for specific items when they crawl your page.  It is important to present your important information in the “places” that the searchbot will look for it. You will need to optimize all of the SEO related HTML such as making sure you include your Keyword in Page Title, Page Description,  Headlines (H1), in the text, etc.  All of these actions are referred to as On-Page SEO.   Many of the popular CMS (Content Management Systems) manage these tasks well.  There are some other basic suggestions you should follow regarding on page SEO, which we discuss in later articles.

There are other technical and website related tasks and best practices you should perform too increase your SEO productivity that we will cover as we go along.  Additionally, you must set up tracking, analytics and analysis.  This can be done by setting up and using  Google Analytics.  You should also verify your website and submit a sitemap by using Google Webmaster Tools.  These are really absolute musts!

4. Content Distribution Destinations

You will now be ready to start distributing your content out to the web and start earning new traffic and links.  We highlight many valuable types of destinations on the following list that you will consider sending your newly created content to.  The appropriate or best destinations for your content and your business will depend on unique factors, which will be discussed in detail later on.  Also, each type of destination accepts content in different formats.  We will discuss how to optimize your content for each type of destination for maximum views, evaluate which sites within each type can provide the most value, how to optimize your content to provide overall SEO value, how to optimize content to create higher CTR's, how to manage your workflow efficiently and much more.
